From engine and mechanical faults to complex CAN network issues and hard-to-find suspension noises, we have the expertise and equipment to diagnose even the most challenging faults. With access to XENTRY, ISTA+ and ODIS, plus specialist equipment including acoustic noise detection cameras, thermal imaging and manufacturer-specific tooling, we have the technology to find the fault and get to the root of the problem.

Technical Evaluation in Worcester

Our Technical Evaluation Assessment allows a specialist technician approximately 1 hour to investigate the fault. Whether this be a suspension noise, engine management light (EML) or ABS/ESP braking fault or anything else – it all starts with our Initial technical assessment. Within the initial assessment we will scan for fault codes, check live data, road test (if applicable) visually inspect and carry out component actuations, check manufacturer technical bulletin boards to find the root cause of your issue. After the initial assessment, depending on fault complexity we will either of identified the root cause and will provide a cost to rectify or if the fault is more complex, a detailed plan on how we would like to proceed with further testing to reach the bottom of the issue and the costs to do so.

What Does A Technical Evaluation Include?

Our initial Technical Evaluation costs £125 inc VAT and gives one of our specialist technicians approximately one hour to investigate the cause of your fault.

A fault-code scan makes up only around 5% of the assessment. Fault codes can provide a useful starting point, but they don’t necessarily tell us what has failed or why. The skill is in interpreting the information, carrying out the correct testing and gathering the evidence needed to reach an accurate diagnosis.

Depending on the fault, your Technical Evaluation can include:

What Happens Next?

At the end of the initial evaluation, we’ll provide a technical report documenting our findings. Where we’ve reached an accurate diagnosis, we’ll explain the repair and parts required to rectify the fault.

For more complex issues, we’ll explain the additional testing and diagnostic time required to continue the investigation. Any additional time and costs will always be requested and agreed with you before we proceed.

Our approach is simple: testing, not guessing.

What are the signs that my car needs a diagnostic test or technical assessment?

There are many reasons your vehicle may require professional diagnostics or a technical assessment. Some of the most common signs include:

  • Warning lights or messages on the dashboard, including engine management, ABS, airbag, AdBlue, DPF or drivetrain warnings.
  • Loss of power, poor acceleration, limp mode or reduced engine performance.
  • Engine running problems, including misfires, rough running, hesitation, stalling or an uneven idle.
  • Starting or electrical problems, including slow cranking, non-starting, battery drain or intermittent electrical faults.
  • Unusual noises, including knocking, rattling, clunking, grinding, whining or squealing.
  • Excessive exhaust smoke, unusual smells or emissions-related problems.
  • Increased fuel consumption or a noticeable reduction in fuel economy.
  • Overheating, coolant loss, oil consumption or other engine temperature and fluid-related problems.
  • Gearbox, clutch or driveline problems, including juddering, slipping, harsh gear changes or difficulty selecting gears.
  • Handling, braking or suspension problems, including vibration, pulling, knocking, unusual tyre wear or changes in braking performance.
  • Air conditioning faults, blowing warm air or noises from the AC system.

If you’re unsure what’s causing a problem, our technical assessment process is designed to identify the root cause of the fault before recommending repairs.

FAQs | Car Diagnostics Worcester

Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about vehicle diagnostics Worcester. If you notice any problems with your car, such as a dashboard warning light, get in touch today to book in for a diagnostic test with Recharged Automotive Worcester.

How long does a diagnostic check take?

The time taken to carry out a vehicle diagnostic test can vary depending on the complexity of the problem. On average, it takes around 30-90 minutes.

A diagnostic check can provide information about the following:

  • Engine performance problems
  • Emission system issues
  • Transmission issues
  • Battery or electrical issues
  • Braking system problems
  • Sensor issues

It is possible to purchase an OBD scanner; however, consumer-level scanners are often very basic and provide limited information. Fault codes can also be difficult to interpret, so it’s best to let a trained specialist technician carry out the diagnostic testing to ensure any issues are accurately identified.

Replacing parts based on a fault code alone can quickly become an expensive way to diagnose a problem and may not fix the fault at all. We recommend testing and understanding the cause before replacing components, which is why we carry out a Technical Evaluation. This puts the responsibility on us to provide an accurate diagnosis, rather than you spending money on parts based on guesswork from a fault code.

Following your Technical Evaluation and diagnostic testing, we’ll either have identified the fault and can provide a clear recommendation and cost for the required repairs, or we’ll advise that further investigation is needed.

For more complex faults, additional diagnostic time may be required to research the system, strip components for access or carry out specialist testing using equipment such as oscilloscopes. We’ll explain what further testing is required and agree any additional costs with you before proceeding, allowing us to reach an accurate diagnosis rather than guess at the repair.

Dealership diagnostics can cost more than tests carried out at independent garages, and use the same scanners and are carried out by mechanics with the same level of training and knowledge. If your vehicle is still under warranty, you can use an independent garage for a diagnostic check, but if the issue is caused by a manufacturer defect, then the dealership will need to carry out any repairs.

If you’re purchasing a used vehicle, having an experienced garage carry out a diagnostic check can save you potential headaches in the future. If you get the check done quick enough (within the right-to-reject period), then you have the opportunity to address any hidden issues that the vehicle might have. We also offer pre-purchase inspections for used vehicles.

If you’re having any problems with your vehicle, get in touch with our team to book it in for a diagnostic test. We can provide an accurate quote, and advise on any repairs needed after the test.

You don’t necessarily need to visit a main dealer for manufacturer-level vehicle diagnostics. As an independent German vehicle specialist, we have access to the same manufacturer diagnostic platforms used by the dealerships for the brands we specialise in.

Our manufacturer diagnostic equipment includes:

Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda, SEAT and CUPRA: ODIS (Offboard Diagnostic Information System)
Mercedes-Benz: XENTRY Diagnosis
BMW and MINI: ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application)

These systems give us access to manufacturer-level fault diagnosis, guided test procedures, live data, component testing, programming, coding, adaptations and technical information where applicable.

Importantly, professional diagnostics involves much more than simply plugging a computer into the vehicle and reading fault codes. A fault code identifies where the vehicle has detected a problem, but it does not necessarily identify the component that has failed.

Our technical assessment process combines manufacturer diagnostic equipment with testing, measurements and technician experience to identify the root cause of the fault before recommending repairs.

This means you can receive manufacturer-level diagnostics for your German vehicle without necessarily having to visit the main dealership.

Professional vehicle diagnostics involves much more than simply plugging in a code reader and reading a fault code.

Correctly identifying the root cause of a fault requires skilled technicians with years of experience, ongoing technical training, manufacturer-level diagnostic equipment, specialist testing tools and access to technical information, software and manufacturer subscriptions.

Modern vehicles contain increasingly complex electronic, mechanical and communication systems. A fault code provides a starting point, but rarely provides a complete diagnosis. Our technicians use live data, wiring diagrams, test procedures, measurements and physical testing to establish why a fault has occurred before recommending a repair.

Generic OBD scanners and information available online can make vehicle diagnostics appear simple, but replacing components based solely on a fault code can quickly become expensive when the initial diagnosis is incorrect.

Diagnostic time is therefore a skilled professional service in its own right. Charging appropriately for this time allows us to continually invest in the training, equipment, tooling and technical resources required to diagnose modern vehicles accurately and efficiently, maintaining the high standard of technical expertise our customers expect.

No. We specialise exclusively in German vehicles and only carry out diagnostic and technical assessment work on the brands we have the correct manufacturer-level equipment, technical information, training and experience to support.

We provide diagnostics for Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, CUPRA, Škoda, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, MINI and Porsche vehicles.

Modern vehicle diagnostics is highly manufacturer-specific. By concentrating on the brands we specialise in, we can invest in the correct diagnostic platforms, specialist tooling, technical subscriptions and ongoing training required to diagnose faults accurately rather than attempting to cover every manufacturer.

For this reason, we do not undertake diagnostic work on other vehicle brands. If you would like us to perform any regular servicing, maintenance or mechanical work (such as suspension & brakes) on NON german vehicles, we are happy to provide a quotation.

Let's get you back on the road.
